One basic secret of healthy, glowing skin is getting enough sleep. We all know that the body repairs itself and the skin makes new collagen while we sleep. To get more Zzz’s, I have recently added a new drink to my bedtime routine – the golden milk.
Golden milk is a popular recipe of ancient Ayurveda, a 5000-year-old healthcare system of India. It is yummier, sweeter and easier to digest than milk. A cup of golden milk before bed can cleanse the blood, improve sleep, support digestion and beautify the complexion. The main ingredient of this drink is turmeric, one of the best antioxidants. I am not used to consuming the turmeric itself, so this golden milk is a great way to get my daily dose of this “wonderful spice”.
There are tons of different ways to make this magical drink. Here is my favorite method which needs only quick and easy ingredients.
Prep Time : 15 minutes
Serves : 1
How To Prepare:
Step One – Golden Paste
- ¼ cup of organic turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper
- ½ cup of water
In a cooking pot, mix all three ingredients and stir well. Turn the heat to medium and mix it until it forms a thick paste. If it becomes too dry, you can add a little bit of water. After that, cool off the mixture and place it in a glass jar with a lid. You can keep it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Warning *** Turmeric can stain, so wear an apron!
Step Two – Golden Milk
- 1 cup of milk ( If you want dairy-free, use coconut milk or rice milk )
- 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
- ¼ (or more) of “Golden Paste”
- Organic honey for taste
- 1 pinch of cinnamon powder
Put the ingredients, except honey and cinnamon, into the cooking pot. Gently heat and stir constantly, but don’t let it boil. Prolonged heat can reduce the effectiveness of turmeric. Remove from heat and then add honey to the desired sweetness. Top it off with a sprinkle of cinnamon powder.
Step Three – Sit Back And Savor The Delicious Taste!
